How does a toilet flush work?
A flush works in a quite simple way. The inside of a flush tank consists of the flush handle, a flapper, a float, refill tube, fill valve, etc among other things. When the flush handle is triggered, the flapper is raised and it allows water to pass. After a sufficient amount of time the flapper settles down and the refill tube starts pumping and filling the tank to prepare for the next flush.
Â
What can go wrong?
If you are curious about why your flush system stopped working or what caused your tank to start leaking, then here are some answers. Even one damaged component can make the whole flushing stop but there can be several reasons for a tank leak. The most common reason is the flapper position problem. When the flapper isn’t properly placed on the flapper seat, it causes water to leak into the toilet bowl. But if your tank is leaking from the bottom then the problem is most likely a worn out water spud. A cracked tank is also a possible reason for a leaking tank.
